Gigs in Greensboro (GIG)

An internship & professional development program run by Xtern Software

We are so excited to introduce our Generosity in Greensboro (GIG) Cohort!

This signature program will combine Xtern's deep roots in our community through volunteer & civic organizations with our desire to provide greater professional pathways to our local college graduates.

For: Computer Science majors

Students must have successfully completed 300-level coursework within a 4-year accredited Computer Science program, with a grade of C or higher.

Complete: A paid summer internship at Xtern Software through Campus Greensboro

Students must apply and be accepted into the 10-week Campus Greensboro Summer Fellows program. This paid summer internship includes professional development and networking opportunities through Campus Greensboro.

Build: Technology to benefit the City of Greensboro's Parks & Recreation Department

This paid technology service project work for the Parks & Rec Department will take place during the summer internship.

Our financial impact so far: Here's what we donated after year two

In year one, we brought on 3 interns and donated $21,800 in pro-bono technology work. In year two, we brought on two interns, and donated $16,000 in pro-bono technology work.

Our progress so far: Here's what we accomplished after year two

A public-facing dashboard that aggregates all kinds of data about the City of Greensboro's rec centers, helping the department demonstrate its value to various stakeholders, such as city council, grant-making agencies, and the public: https://gigsgso.com/

An employee-facing survey platform that department employees can use to easily create surveys to capture data in circumstances where there is a dearth of information. Having more data would demonstrate ROI for facilities, programs, and events, which is especially helpful for the department's national accreditation.
