We are so excited to introduce our Gigs in Greensboro (GIG) Cohort Pilot! This signature program will combine Xtern's deep roots in our community through volunteer & civic organizations with our desire to provide greater professional pathways to our local college graduates.
Our key partners are Campus Greensboro via their Summer Fellows program, UNCG Career & Professional Development via employer site visits, the City of Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department, and several local employers.
We plan to run a pilot program from June 2024 - May 2025 with students majoring in Computer Science at UNCG. Our goal is to run a yearly GIG Cohort that grows every year.
The pilot will consist of:
- A 10-week paid summer internship at Xtern Software with professional development and mentorship opportunities via Campus Greensboro. Students must apply and be accepted through Campus Greensboro to participate in the internship. Approximate dates: June 2024 - August 2024 (roughly 20 hours per week).
- Real-world software development and collaboration with seasoned industry professionals via a paid technology service project for the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department. Technology service project work will take place during the summer internship.
- Exposure to Greensboro employers and networking opportunities via employer site visits with UNCG Career & Professional Development.
- The opportunity to earn a $1,500 scholarship to continue their education at UNCG.
The scholarship will be awarded at a luncheon in May 2025.
To be eligible, students must have successfully completed their internship (in which they worked on the technology service project), and participated in at least 2 employer site visits.
**UNCG students must be rising Juniors or Seniors who have successfully completed CS 330 with a grade of C or better.
